The Manitoba Building & Construction Trades Council is a non-profit umbrella organization representing 14 building trade unions with more than 5000 members in the province’s construction industry.

Usually known as Manitoba Building Trades, the council works to positively influence events in the construction industry and government, making things better for our union members and for all construction workers.

Our aim is to make sure the construction workplace is safe, people are well-trained, payment is fair, healthcare services are provided for members and their families, and tradespeople can retire in comfort and dignity.

The council has a long, active history, and is a direct descendent of the Winnipeg Building Trades Council formed March 9, 1909. Provincial responsibility first came in 1943, when the name was changed to The Winnipeg and Vicinity Building Trades Council. Today’s name was introduced in 1995.
