Manitoba Building Trades and Province Sign First Manitoba Jobs Agreement.

Commitment to framework ensures public investments deliver public good.

The Manitoba Building Trades, in partnership with the Government of Manitoba, is proud to announce the signing of the very first Manitoba Jobs Agreement (MJA) — an initial step in a landmark framework that ensures public investment in infrastructure delivers lasting public good.

The first MJA will be applied to the construction of four new schools across the province. These projects will not only provide modern learning environments for students and families, but also create career-building opportunities for Manitobans.

Under the agreement:

  • Prevailing wages and benefits will be guaranteed for all workers, ensuring safe, fair, and high-standard job sites.
  • 10% of total project hours will be reserved for apprentices, giving young Manitobans the hands-on training they need to launch successful careers in the skilled trades.
  • 20% of hires will be from equity-deserving groups, including women, Indigenous Manitobans, and newcomers, opening doors to a more inclusive construction workforce.

“Public infrastructure investment should deliver more than bricks and mortar – ” said Tanya Palson, Executive Director of Manitoba Building Trades. “It should deliver well paying careers, stability for families, and stronger communities. That’s exactly what this framework does.”

The Manitoba Jobs Agreement is designed to serve as a framework for all major provincial infrastructure projects, from hospitals to hydro, helping ensure that taxpayer dollars support Manitoba workers, families, and communities.
